Lore is what brings a story, or in this case a game, alive. In Elyria there are many different peoples, several of them with disparate views of how Mann-Kind got to Elyria, whether there is one god or many, whether the gods are still listening or whether they've abandoned us, and most importantly - who or what the greatest evil is.
The Lore of Elyria
A Rich History
In Chronicles of Elyria the actions players take have a permanent and lasting impact on their environment as well as driving the history of the world. Local, regional, and national conflicts are continuously unfolding, giving birth to repeated opportunities for you to change the course of history. Players can work to gain control over and monopolize a valuable commodity, they can blockade or siege neighboring settlements to force alliances or concessions, and they can construct individual buildings or even entire civilizations through our innovative new settlement system.
Your Contribution
Chronicles of Elyria launches in 817th year of the Fourth Age, but even now players are working with developers to build out the last 500 years of history. Elyria has a rich and vibrant history, dating back to ancient times. Learn about the Breaking of the World in the First Age, the God's War in the Second Age, plus the coming of Mann and his children (your character's ancestors) to Elyria after being banished from Haven, the fabled City of the Gods.
Certain deeds go down in the annals of history and that is where the achievement system comes in. Some achievements might be given to a single hero of the age, others to those groups who bravely stood in the face of adversity, while some achievements may be passed down between characters or even between lifetimes. Titles, surnames, heraldry, or artifacts might also be rewarded along with the achievement to become part of legends that are known throughout the land.
A Compelling Story
Triggered by surrounding events, players are free to be masters of their own destiny while still enjoying a role in the larger story. Like a global, choose-your-own adventure book, player actions guide the direction of the 10-year story through a proprietary new story system we call “Storyfinding.” Like the GPS on your phone, the A.I. guides the players to the next way-point in the story, giving us the ability to maintain a tight narrative, while giving you the freedom of choosing which path to take.
The 5 Religions of Elyria
There are five main religions in Chronicles of Elyria, each practiced by different groups among the 12 tribes. Each religion has different gods or deities, different creation lore, and different customs of worship. The people of Elyria do not know whether gods exist or not, but many believe they do. Some do not.
The Qindred believe Mann are the descendants of the Qin, powerful beings born of the First Ancient, Angelica. The Faedin believe all living things are tied to the Spirit World and spirits reside in all things, even inanimate objects. The Al'tifali worship the Two-fold Queen and strive to achieve cosmic balance in her Great Ledger. The Virtori believe there are 7 virtues and 7 vices which, after a great war between their God-like incarnations, were sealed away by Mann-kind to save Elyria from doom. The Faithless recognize the Gods, Ancients, and Guardians of the other religions, but refuse to allow them to have any power over them.
